About the data

Here you will find some general information about the data displayed on this website.

You can check any unfamiliar terms or abbreviations in the glossary.

Search and filter data

Apportioned amount

At some levels the data has been apportioned according to Census population data. This means that where a service is contracted to be available across a region, the amount of funding will be divided up in relation to the population of that region. Services may not be directly located in that region, but the provider has been contracted to deliver services for the region.

Departmental operating expenditure (DOE)

Departmental operating expenditure is the money a government agency spends on day to day operation and provision of services.

Financial year

The government's financial year runs from 1 July to 30 June in the next year. On this site the year end number is shown to represent the financial year. For example the year 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011 is shown as the financial year 2011.

In the filter you can select a number of years ahead of the current financial year. This will display contracts which end in these out years.

There is no retrospective data.

National contracts

Where a provider has a national contract, the amount of the contract is shown as being distributed on a per capita basis across all the Territorial Authority regions in the country. However, a national provider will not deliver services according to population density, and may not deliver services in every region.

Non-departmental operating expenditure

Non-departmental expenditure is where a government agency acts as a funding agency to provide money to other persons or organisations on behalf of the government.

Population

Population data as displayed and as used for apportioning funding across areas is based on the latest available Census data.

Sensitive – withheld

Detailed information that could compromise the safety of the people who use a service has not been included on this site. In some cases the providers name and address is not shown and instead will display as 'sensitive – withheld'.

If you click on the provider name 'sensitive – withheld' in the panel on the left you will see a list of all the contracts with undisclosed information with services available in that area.

Service groups

The types of services provided have been simplified into groups. These are themes of services within each funding agency and allow you to narrow down on funding when using the filter.

Contract and funding data

Apportionment of funding

At some levels the data has been apportioned according to Census population data. This means that where a service is contracted to be available across a region, the amount of funding will be divided up in relation to the population of that region. Services may not be directly located in that region, but the provider has been contracted to deliver services for the region.

Description of areas

Providers deliver services in different types of areas according to the detail of their contract. This could be a Territorial Authority area or a Child, Youth and Family site area. This website displays the data using Territorial Authorities areas and so some data has been approximated based on geographic area.

GST

All contract amounts shown are exclusive of GST.

Updating data

The data on the website will be updated each month. This allows us to make changes to show any new contracts signed in the month, contracts that have come to an end, and variations to contracts.

Provider data

Address

This is the provider's address from their contract but they may operate from other addresses.

Contract volume

The contract volume is the number of clients or types of service the provider has been contracted to provide in a financial year. It is not the actual number they have provided over the year.

When a contract covers more than one year, the number of clients or services per year may be approximated.

Contract target

This describes the area where the provider has been contracted to provide their services. These areas may differ between government agencies.

If you hover your mouse over the contract target area, the specific name or a description of the area will appear.

Contract total

This column shows the amount of each contract a provider has with a government agency, where the contracted service delivery area includes the area unit selected.

Departmental operating expenditure

Departmental operating expenditure is the money a government agency spends on day to day operation and provision of services.

Funder

This website provides information on contracts with

  • Ministry of Education
  • Ministry of Health
  • Ministry of Justice
  • Ministry of Social Development
  • Te Puni Kōkiri

Providers may receive funding from more than one agency for different programmes or services.

Name

The provider's legal name is shown in bold, followed by any other name they use.

Non-departmental operating expenditure

Non-departmental expenditure is where a government agency acts as a funding agency to provide money to other persons or organisations on behalf of the government.

Sensitive information

Detailed information that could compromise the safety of the people who use a service has not been included on this site. However funding amounts will still be shown, marked as 'sensitive – withheld'.

Service type

The number in the table matches to the number in the service type description under the table.

Providers can have one or several contracts for which different services are specified under the same service type. For example one line of funding could be for the administration of a service and the other for paying staff to deliver that service.
